Do you know someone that is super smart or capable but never seems to do well because they simply do not apply themselves? Chances are you do, or you are that person yourself. Simply having ability does not mean that we live up to it, does it? I received a challenge today as I was reading regarding this very thing. Check out Proverbs 23:12 “Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to words of knowledge.” The bible teaches that part of being wise is to simply apply yourself in learning - whatever that learning is. It could be education, or the bible, or even instructions at work or school. The point is that you will never know what you are capable of until you actually apply yourself. So, the practical take away is this. Are you applying yourself right now in school, work, church, personal study, or any other learning? Don’t settle for half effort. See what you really can do! This not only puts you in a better place but it also brings honor to God. Truly apply yourself today and just see what happens. Consider it a challenge. Love ya!

We all know that it is a good practice to think of how God has been good to us, but how often do we actually do it? It is often said that if we really took time to mention all the good things that God has done just in our own lives, that we could take literally all day. I do not think that is an overstatement. God is so good to us! I know He has been good to me! Look at what Psalm 66:5 says. “Come and see the works of God; He is awesome in his doing toward the sons of men.” God has done awesome things for all of us! I want to encourage you to take some time today to really think about the amazing things that God has done in your life. Think of how He has provided for you. Think of how He has blessed you. Think of how He has answered prayer. Think of how He has helped you. Think of how He has healed you. Think of how He has directed you to even be where you are. Think about how He has forgiven you. Think of the wonderful things He has done! It will bless your heart and cause you to want to be a blessing to His heart. God is good! We say it all the time. But, think about the specific ways that He has been good to you and see what a difference it makes in your own attitude. Love ya!

Have you ever had someone tell you something another person supposedly said or did and find out that it was not quite like they told you? Unfortunately this describes a lot of the mess we see and hear on social media and media as a whole. We all see things through our own lenses and too often only see or hear what we want. There is a great proverb that reminds us to always get the other side of the story before we make a judgment. Proverbs 18:17 "the first one to plead his cause seems right, until his neighbor comes and examines him." This makes sense doesn't it! We hear something and make a judgment before the other side is told. Maybe it is because it is a friend saying it, but the first to speak seems right. However, oftentimes we have to practice wisdom when it comes to what people say. We always have to remember that there is another side to the story. I have often said this, and I stick by it because it has proven true over the years. Listen to both sides of the story or situation before you make a decision. You generally find the truth somewhere in the middle. This is just some good practical advice. Be wise, don't jump to conclusions! Get the whole story! Seek the whole truth! Just something to think about. Love ya!
